Managing vs Leading & Life Events vs Storytelling
Often management and leadership are words used interchangeably but there is a difference. Take care to recognize when you should lead and when you need to manage.
Howdy to my 1188 supporters! 👋🏻If you're interested in learning how to create visual metaphors, I'm working on developing a workshop! 🚀 I'm limiting the space to a small group for now. INTERESTING
There's a bunch of advice on time management but little on energy management.
To some willpower is grit or the ability to persevere.
To others it's the ability to resist.
For me, it's the discipline to stick to my commitments.
I found if I front-load my day by following through on commitments, I have less anxiety the rest of the day.
I used to be the opposite, but recently I've recognized I'm depleted after dinner and got very little left in the tank.
How do you manage your energy?
DESIGN
A simple but easy to apply lesson in drawing the same object in perspective. These simple guidelines alone are helpful, but when they're combined with other guidelines can become powerful.
ENCHANTING
We may think we don't have stories worth sharing, but that's just because we haven't connected the dots yet.
“Make it your mission to find, see, remember, and identify stories, and you will begin to see your life in a new and more compelling light.”
There're lot of books on storytelling, but few have as many practical insights into the artform as Storyworthy.
It's made me reconsider what I should look for in an engaging story, which has proven invaluable in my teaching practice.
ANALOGY
I am fascinated with how words and labels shift the way we experience the world.
Visuals can help clarify and distill subtle differences in words. Often management and leadership are words used interchangeably but there is a difference.
Both are skills that can be learned.
Both are essential in an organization.
But you should know what you're trying to do and take care to recognize when you should lead and when you need to manage. This was one of my first visuals I posted on Twitter and you can see in my process video, how messy the discovery process of the design and colors were. 😅
